Fresh Juice at Breakfast: Starting the Day the Lively Way
Our shutters open at 8 in the morning, and the first customers of the day are a recognisable tribe: shopkeepers on their way to open their own shops, students, office-goers, and walkers finishing a morning round. Many of them order the same thing — a fresh glass to go with, or sometimes instead of, breakfast. Why does juice in the morning feel so right? The reasons are simpler and more ordinary than the internet usually claims, and they are worth understanding properly.
Reason One: You Wake Up Thirsty
After seven or eight hours of sleep, your body has gone the whole night without water. The mild tiredness and heavy head many people blame on "not being a morning person" is often plain thirst. A glass of fresh juice is mostly water by nature — fruit is water wearing a delicious disguise — so a morning glass rehydrates you while tasting like a treat rather than a chore. It is no accident that the first glass of the day at our counter so often disappears in a minute flat.
Reason Two: Quick, Natural Energy
Fruits carry their own natural sugars along with flavour, and the body takes energy from a fresh glass quickly — which is exactly what a slow morning asks for. This is the honest version of the claim, and it comes with an honest balance: juice gives energy fast, but it does not keep you full the way a meal does, because most of the fruit's fibre stays behind in the press. That is why we say juice works best with breakfast rather than as breakfast. A glass beside your paratha, eggs or porridge rounds the meal out beautifully. A banana-based shake goes further — our Banana Khajur Shake (Rs 280), blending banana with dates, is thick and filling enough that many morning customers treat it as breakfast in a glass on busy days.
Which Glass for Which Morning?
- Orange (Malta) Juice (Rs 400): the classic morning glass when maltas are in season — bright, sweet-tart and full of the vitamin C citrus fruits are known for.
- Apple Juice (Rs 400): gentle and naturally sweet, an easy first glass for people who find citrus too sharp on an empty stomach.
- Carrot Juice (Rs 300): the winter morning regular — sweet, earthy and a long-standing favourite in Quetta's cold months.
- Pomegranate Juice (Rs 500): the rich one — deep-flavoured and satisfying, more of a slow savour than a quick refresher.
- Banana Khajur Shake (Rs 280): for the rushed mornings — thick, filling and naturally sweet from fruit and dates alone.
Three Habits That Make It Better
Drink it fresh. Juice begins losing its sparkle the moment it is pressed — flavours dull and the colour fades. Our whole way of working, explained in how we make juice to order, exists for this reason. A morning glass should be minutes old, not hours. Keep your routine varied. Rotating between orange, apple, carrot and anar across the week means a wider mix of flavours and nutrients than any single daily glass — and it keeps the habit enjoyable instead of mechanical. Listen to your own body. Citrus on a completely empty stomach does not suit everyone; if that is you, have the glass with food, or choose apple or banana instead. Common sense beats any article — including this one.
