Carrot and Orange Mixed Juice: Two Winter Fruits, One Bright Glass

By Panjtan Juice ยท Published 20 October 2026

Fresh carrot juice

Winter is the one season when two of Quetta's best juicing fruits peak together. Carrots come in sweet and deep-red from the cold fields, and maltas โ€” our local oranges โ€” arrive heavy with juice. On their own, each makes a fine glass: Carrot Juice (Rs 300) and Orange Juice (Rs 400) are both winter staples on our menu at Panjtan Juice, Barma Road, Hazara Town, Quetta. Blended together, though, they do something neither manages alone: the carrot's earthy sweetness gains a bright, citrus edge, and the orange's sharpness settles into something rounder and more filling. Here is how the blend works, the ratio that respects both fruits, and how to make it properly at home.

What Each Fruit Brings

Carrot is the body of the blend. A good winter carrot juices thick, sweet and almost creamy, with a deep colour that tells you the fruit โ€” well, the root โ€” was grown slowly in cold ground. Our carrot juice guide explains why cold sweetens carrots so reliably. Orange is the sparkle. Fresh malta juice is fragrant, gently tart and immediately refreshing, the part of the glass you taste first and remember last; our orange juice guide covers choosing fruit that juices sweet rather than sour. Put simply: carrot without orange can taste a little flat and heavy, orange without carrot can taste a little thin and sharp. Together, each one fixes the other. There is also a colour argument, and it is not trivial: the blend pours a deep sunset orange that neither fruit reaches alone, the kind of glass that sells the next one across the table before anyone has tasted it.

The Ratio That Works

Start at roughly sixty percent carrot to forty percent orange, measured by the finished juice, and adjust from there. More carrot makes a sweeter, thicker, more breakfast-like glass. More orange makes a lighter, brighter, more thirst-quenching one. Two honest warnings from the counter. First, do not chase sweetness by pushing the carrot share too far โ€” past about seventy percent, the orange disappears and you are simply drinking carrot juice with a rumour of citrus. Second, never sweeten the blend with sugar before tasting it: winter carrots and ripe maltas, chosen well, sweeten the glass completely on their own. Blend, taste, then judge โ€” in that order.

Choosing Fruit for the Blend

  • Carrots: deep red, firm and heavy, snapping cleanly rather than bending. Avoid pale, woody cores โ€” they juice bitter and stringy.
  • Maltas: heavy for their size, with thin, tight skin. Weight is juice; a light orange is a dry orange, whatever its colour.
  • Both: buy for juicing within a day or two. The blend is only as good as the weaker of its two fruits, so one tired ingredient drags the whole glass down.

Making It at Home, Step by Step

Wash and scrub the carrots โ€” no need to peel good ones, but top and tail them โ€” and cut them to your juicer's size. Juice the carrots first and let that base settle for a moment. Peel the maltas, removing as much white pith as you reasonably can, since pith is where bitterness hides, and juice them second. Stir the two together rather than layering them, pour over nothing โ€” no ice, which only dilutes โ€” and drink within minutes. Fresh juice begins losing its brightness the moment it meets air, and this blend, with delicate orange at its heart, fades faster than most. A glass made at breakfast and "saved" for lunch is a different, duller drink. If your juicer struggles with carrots, alternate carrot pieces with orange segments as you feed it โ€” the softer fruit helps the machine clear the harder root, and the juices marry in the jug instead of the glass.

A Note on the Health Talk

People often reach for this blend because carrots and oranges are both widely valued as sources of everyday vitamins, and a fresh glass is certainly a better daily habit than a fizzy drink. Treat that as general information only, not medical advice โ€” the honest reason to drink it is simpler: it tastes like winter at its best, made from two fruits at their peak, pressed minutes before you drink it.
