Chocolate Ice Cream or Chocolate Milkshake: Pick Your Chocolate

Chocolate ice cream

Chocolate is the flavour that never needs an introduction. It is the first ice cream children ask for, the milkshake flavour that regulars order on autopilot, and the safe choice when a whole family cannot agree on anything else. But chocolate comes in two very different forms at our counter โ€” a scoop and a glass โ€” and choosing between them is not as simple as it looks. Here is how the two compare.

The Scoop: Chocolate Ice Cream

Chocolate ice cream (Rs 200 a scoop) is chocolate at its most concentrated. Cold, dense and unhurried, it is eaten with a spoon, one small bite at a time, and the flavour arrives slowly and stays. Because it is served frozen, the sweetness is gentler than you might expect โ€” cold dulls sweetness โ€” so the cocoa comes through cleanly. It is the right choice when you want a proper dessert: after dinner, on a slow evening, or when you are sitting with family and nobody is in a rush. It is also the cheapest way to taste chocolate at the shop, and the easiest to share โ€” two spoons, one scoop, one happy argument over the last bite.

The Glass: Chocolate Milkshake

Chocolate milkshake (Rs 300) is chocolate as a drink: cold milk, chocolate and ice blended into a thick, smooth glass you can finish in a few minutes. It is richer and more filling than the ice cream, because it carries the milk as well as the chocolate, and it feels like a small meal rather than a dessert. The flavour is rounder and creamier, less intense spoonful by spoonful, but more satisfying overall. Choose the shake when you are hungry, when you are thirsty, or when you want something you can carry away with you โ€” a milkshake travels, an ice cream scoop does not. It is also the better afternoon choice, when the day is warm and you want refreshment with your chocolate.

Or Both at Once?

There is a third option, and regulars know it well: the chocolate milkshake with ice cream (Rs 350). A scoop of chocolate ice cream blended into the shake makes it thicker, colder and more intensely chocolate than either version alone โ€” the closest thing on the menu to a dessert in a glass. It is a big glass, and it is not an everyday order, but as a treat it is hard to beat. The same trick works across the menu: strawberry, blueberry and pineapple shakes all come in with-ice-cream versions at Rs 350, and the Oreo milkshake at Rs 350 is chocolate's crunchy cousin. If you love chocolate, the with-ice-cream version is the one to try at least once.

For Children, Families and First-Timers

  • Children usually prefer the milkshake โ€” it is easier to drink than to eat with a spoon, and it feels like a treat rather than a dessert they have to sit still for.
  • After dinner, the ice cream scoop wins: it is lighter, slower, and it ends the meal the way a dessert should.
  • On a hot day, the milkshake wins: colder, quicker, and more refreshing when you are coming in from the sun.
  • Sharing with a friend, order one of each and swap halfway. It is the fastest way to learn which chocolate you actually prefer.
  • Watching the budget, the Rs 200 scoop is the kindest chocolate on the menu โ€” and a parcel pack (half litre Rs 500, one litre Rs 900) brings the same ice cream home for the whole family.

What Makes a Good Chocolate, Either Way

Whether it is a scoop or a glass, good chocolate is judged the same way. It should taste of cocoa, not just of sugar โ€” sweet, yes, but with a depth underneath the sweetness. It should be smooth, with no grit or icy crystals. And it should be cold all the way through, not half-melted at the edges. That is why we make the shake fresh for every order and keep the ice cream at a steady, proper freeze: chocolate is a forgiving flavour, but only if the basics are right. A chocolate that is made well needs no topping and no decoration. It simply tastes like chocolate, and that is enough.
