Your First Visit to a Juice Shop: How to Order Like a Regular

Special Falooda

Walking into a juice shop for the first time can feel oddly difficult. The menu is long, the regulars order in shorthand, and the person behind the counter seems to know everyone else's usual. Nobody is judging you โ€” but a little knowledge turns a hesitant first order into a confident one. This is the guide we wish every first-time visitor had read: what the menu means, what to try first, and how to ask for exactly what you want.

Reading the Menu: Four Families

Every item on our menu belongs to one of four families. Fresh juices are fruit, pressed to order โ€” apple, carrot, orange, pomegranate, and pineapple at an ask-price that varies with the market. Milkshakes are fruit or flavour blended with milk and ice โ€” the biggest family, from a simple banana shake (Rs 250) to the rich majon variants (Rs 350). Ice creams are scoops, all Rs 200, in nine flavours. And then the two signatures: Special Falooda (Rs 300) and Special Soup (Rs 200), which are meals in themselves rather than drinks. Learn the four families and the menu stops looking like a wall of words.

What to Order First

If you have no idea where to start, start with the shop's most-ordered glass. At our counter that is usually a milkshake โ€” banana for something familiar and filling, strawberry for something bright, chocolate for a safe favourite. First-timers who want to taste what a juice shop is for should try a fresh juice instead: an orange juice (Rs 400) shows you the difference between pressed and packaged in a single sip, and a carrot juice (Rs 300) is the lightest, easiest introduction to fresh juice there is.

The falooda is the third first-order worth considering, but know what it is: a tall glass of milk, ice cream, jelly and noodles, eaten with a spoon as much as drunk. Order it when you are hungry and unhurried, not when you are in a rush โ€” and if noodles are not your thing, the falooda without noodle (Rs 350) keeps everything else. Our falooda choosing guide walks through the options.

How to Ask for What You Want

The counter staff can adjust almost anything if you say it plainly. Less sweet? Say so โ€” fruit shakes can be made lighter, and nobody will be offended. Thicker? Ask for it thick; thinner? Ask for more milk. No ice, extra ice, a smaller glass for a child โ€” all of these are normal requests, made every day. The one thing to avoid is ordering a flavour you dislike and hoping the shop will fix it: if you do not like banana, no banana shake, however well made, will convert you. Order what you like, and let the shop do it well.

Prices help you decide without embarrassment. Most milkshakes are Rs 300, most juices Rs 300โ€“500, ice cream Rs 200, and the signatures Rs 200โ€“300. and our full menu lists everything plainly.

Eating In, Taking Away, Ordering Ahead

Juice shops are casual places: order at the counter, wait a few minutes while your glass is made fresh, and drink it there or take it with you. If you are ordering for a family or a gathering, order ahead: a message on WhatsApp lets us prepare a round at once instead of one glass at a time, and our guide to juices for parties covers quantities.

Ice cream parcel packs work the other way: they are made for the journey home. A half litre pack (Rs 500) or 1 litre pack (Rs 900) carries the shop to your house, and our storage guide explains how to keep it perfect once it is there.

The Regular's Secret: There Isn't One

Regulars are not regulars because they know a secret menu. They are regulars because they found one glass they love and ordered it until the staff remembered. Your first visit is simply the first step of that: try something, notice what you liked, and come back and ask for it again โ€” a little sweeter, a little thicker, exactly as before.

So come as you are, order what sounds good, and ask questions โ€” that is what the counter is for. At Panjtan Juice on Barma Road, Hazara Town, Quetta โ€” open from 8 AM daily, orders on WhatsApp 0329 0386551 โ€” we open at 8 AM daily, and every glass is made fresh while you wait. Your usual is waiting to be discovered; the first order is the only hard one.
